If you’ve never been you do want to visit “The Rock” in Canada one day. The capital city is St. John’s, and the downtown area boasts some great sites and things to do. This page carries on from this page, and provides a bit about Duckworth and George Streets in downtown St. John’s Newfoundland.
In the map below, it’s the read number 3 that identifies Duckworth Street and where it runs in St. John’s.
At its east end, Duckworth Street turns into Signal Hill Road, the road that ascends Signal Hill to summit at Cabot Tower. Some folks walk up, but not this person. Too steep for me. However, this page is about Duckworth Street first, and then a bit about George Street as well.
Heading west on Duckworth from where it begins a visitor will encounter residences, some cafes, pass a major hotel, and travel a kilometer or so before getting into St. John’s downtown area, and where they will enjoy some of the amenities Duckworth Street has to offer.
On the right as one approaches this part of the street is the oldest store in St. John’s, a place for home made, take home meals, ice cold drinks, ice and other accessories that help make a stay in downtown St. John’s more enjoyable. We frequented this store quite a bit, not the least for the local, chilled beers and ales for sale.
Past the oldes store, it’s still quite a ways to walk right downtown. If there’s no hurry, and there wasn’t for us, it’s a most enjoyable walk with plenty of shops, restaurants etc. to stop into along the way.
Strolling along in spring, summer or fall sunshine in downtown St. John’s is a real joy.
We hope you get the opportunity of enjoying it as well. Lovely people, lovely place.
Cheers.
